SparkTank
You have a great business idea and you’re eager to start building your business and chasing your dreams. But being a young entrepreneur comes with its own set of challenges. Some common obstacles student entrepreneurs may encounter are:
- Balancing education and business
- Scarcity of start-up capital
- Limited business skills
- Lack of leadership and management experience
- Age bias and difficulty building credibility
Don’t worry – SparkTank has got you covered. We’re here to support you and help you overcome these challenges. We’ll connect you with the right people, including a trusted mentor who knows the ins and outs of the field you want to enter. We’ll also guide you in creating a business model and vision statement, and help you develop the leadership and organisational skills you need to succeed.
With SparkTank, you’ll be more than ready to answer the questions investors most commonly ask in a pitch:
- What is your business all about?
- What will prevent others from doing what you’re doing, or, what’s your competitive advantage?
- What are you going to do with the money you raise?
- Who’s your target market and why will they buy from you?
- What’s your marketing strategy?
- What does your venture/management team look like?
Process
Applicants fill out and submit an online application to enrol in the three-month incubation programme.
Applications are reviewed and screened.
Shortlisted applicants pitch their idea to the Admissions Committee and the terms of incubation are finalised.
Selected applicants are enrolled in a three-month incubation programme, at the end of which applicants may apply for an extension if necessary.
Mentors guide students to review their proposals and create business plans after conducting research, designing a business model, and developing a complete strategy.
Successful participants will be invited to showcase their business ideas to potential investors and the SparkTank committee which will then decide whether to become a permanent funding partner.
- Students aged 10 to 19 years can apply. If a student under the age of 10 has an innovative idea, exceptions may be created to this rule.
- Students may apply individually, or as a group of maximum 4 members.
- All interested students must apply online to be considered for admission into the incubator.
- All types of business ideas whether technology-based, not-for-profit, products, or services are accepted.
- Proposed ideas should demonstrate the potential for transformation into a viable business, preferably having a positive social impact.
